RELATIVES
Ukraine, 2026 | Comedy | 90 min
The will has not even been written yet, but the battle for the inheritance has already begun.
Baba Nadia is celebrating her 80th birthday in a village near Kyiv. While she is very much alive and enjoying the occasion, her family is already making plans for what they consider their future inheritance — her house.
Her granddaughter brings her a new sofa, her son presents her with a gravestone, her daughter-in-law is quietly developing a plan to take over the house, and the entire neighbourhood watches with fascination as the family members try to outsmart one another.
Meanwhile, Baba Nadia seems to be enjoying the chaos more than anyone else.
As the relatives compete for a house that does not yet belong to any of them, they manage to argue, fall in love, reconcile, and even bury the very much alive birthday woman.
Relatives is a new Ukrainian comedy about family, greed, love and the wonderfully complicated relationships between the people closest to us. Set in a Ukrainian village, the film combines warm humour with an affectionate look at family dynamics and the absurd situations that arise when money and property enter the picture.
Because in the end, the strongest thing holding this family together is not a fence or a house — it is the family itself, even when its members occasionally seem ready to kill one another.
