Galina

A portrait film about composer Galina Grigorjeva. Born in Ukraine, she studied at the Simferopol Music School and the Odessa Conservatory, graduated from the St. Petersburg Conservatory under Yuri Falik in 1991, and pursued her master`s studies at the Estonian Academy of Music from 1994 to 1998 under the guidance of Lepo Sumera.

The passion with which Galina explains the meaning of life and her concern over the fading of that meaning, such courage is rare and enlightening: "Pure art does not interest me at all. I`m interested in where we`re heading and the Spirit that gives us the impetus. I see art as a cross, where the artist`s work is the horizontal and the message of art is the vertical. We cannot separate culture from the religious world; they go hand in hand. There must be a foundation to rely on because if there isn`t people will become a herd. We are walking on ice, and beneath is emptiness..."
